Club Captain’s Welcome
As Consett Golf Club Captain for 2019, it is my honour to extend a very warm welcome to you for the forthcoming season and hopefully many more thereafter.
You are joining a long established club (founded in 1911) which has a deserved reputation of having one of the most scenic courses in the County.
The course is well cared for by David Stokoe our Head Green keeper, (not related….as far as I know), and his team.
Our clubhouse continues to go from strength to strength with the members and those who book the regular functions being well looked after by Joanne leading the bar team and Brian Wigham who caters for all things food.
As Captain I am privileged to nominate charities for the year, they are:
Willowburn Hospice
Consett Golf Club (Charity begins at home, with proceeds to be spent on a specific project TBC).
My Captains Charity day is on 13th July. ‘’Dog in a box’’ a very highly rated local band have been booked, along with a ‘’ Brian Wigham Buffet’’. We look forward to an excellent day of golf and evening of entertainment, with all proceeds from the day going to the Charity fund.
I hope you enjoy your new club on and off the course, please feel free to tap me on the shoulder and introduce yourself, anytime, anywhere.

Captain 2019

Ladies Captain’s Welcome

The Ladies Section would like to extend new Ladies a very warm welcome to Consett Golf Club. I have the honour of being Ladies Captain for the second year, with Heather Milburn as my vice-captain.
We are a very friendly ladies section, with golfers of all abilities and standard. We generally play our competitions on a Monday and Thursday but have alternative days on a Sunday. We currently play in Durham Ladies Anderson league, a 7-person team playing home and away matches. Many of our Ladies enjoy playing other courses and play in the County Comps and/or the County Vets Comps.
As Captain, we arrange an Away Day (not yet finalised), Captains Day in June and Invitation day in August. We have some mixed competitions within the club and we also have several ladies who play in the Winter League.
We have a good relationship with all sections within the club, and have an excellent Mixed Texas Scramble run by the Senior Section. Our head green keeper David Stokoe and team keep the course in great condition, and are excellent support to the ladies section.
We are very lucky to have great catering facilities provided by Brian and Nicola Wigham, with the bar staff managed by Joanne, providing many lovely meals for the Ladies Section after team matches, our end of season game and presentation night.
Please don’t hesitate to contact myself, Heather or any other members of the Ladies section if you would like someone to take you round the course, for a few holes or 18 holes.

Senior Captain’s Welcome

A warm welcome awaits all senior golfers whether they be competitive or social.
We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9.00am and are always keen to attract new members to join and enjoy these relaxed and friendly occasions which are well supported of which the age qualification is 60.
We play 8 home and 8 away friendly league fixtures over the season with the 12 man teams eagerly awaited by our members. Other than the weekly sweeps we have 10 competitions a year plus the Seniors Open in July (open to anyone aged 55 or over).
Our yearly away day in August is yet to be finalised but our 2 day away trip is to Aldwark Manor Golf Club near York, I am delighted with the response from the members that have agreed to play.
As Captain this year I am looking forward to working with Vice Captain John Mitchell and our dedicated committee. My Captains Prize Day will be the 29th of August and our yearly Christmas Dinner and karaoke will be in December.
Thanks, and appreciation to the hard work done by David Stokoe and his team who work tirelessly on the course, to Joanne and her staff for looking after the bar and to Brian and Nicola who provide catering of the highest standard.
Knowing I have the support of my fellow members, Club Captain Shaun Stokoe, Ladies Captain Jillian Hughes and club professional Craig Dilley I look forward to the challenge and will commit to the position to the best of my ability.

Good wishes to all members, let’s hope we have a great year.

Junior Section’s Welcome

Here at Consett & District GC we believe that Junior golf should be accessible and affordable to all, but most importantly, a fun and safe experience for your children.
We have a well established Junior section which consists of 2 main groups:

Our two Junior organisers are:
Mark Bonser – father, Club Champion 3 times.

Our nationally recognised PGA coach, Craig Dilley, leads our junior coaching program, supported by Golf Roots & England Golf Craig has over 20 years experience in coaching. Private lessons are available with Craig by contacting him direct, and he also has a well stocked shop where you can purchase your golfing equipment.
Getting Started
Golf does not have to be an expensive sport. When first starting to play it’s a good idea to borrow or share clubs before eventually buying your own, if you’re not sure have a word with Craig who can advise you on what’s best for you.
As with all golf clubs we do have a dress code for the clubhouse so please check our website for more details
All Juniors with a CONGU handicap of up to 56,you are then allowed to enter all Junior competitions,
Junior boys with a handicap of 18 or less are allowed to enter men’s competitions.
Junior girls with a handicap of 36 or less are allowed to enter Ladies competitions.
Academy Juniors playing in blue tee competitions, are allowed an adult/parent to caddy for them.
A Junior Organiser is available for any questions that parents may have.
Consett Juniors are part of the N W Durham league & play in weekly matches against other teams in the league. We are proud to be the leagues 2018 champions.
We also play in the Durham County Golf Union Juniors team competitions and knockout matches
Our club bar and refreshment area are open to the parents of our Juniors members, so after checking in for a match or coaching, you are welcome to enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere in the lounge
How do I join?
There are lots of options available for joining as a junior, so the best thing to do is to phone our Secretary, Dave Quinn on 10207 505060. Dave will be able to discuss the joining procedure and facilities with you. Alternatively email to arrange an introductory meeting
And finally
As part of our commitment to providing a safe & enjoyable environment where young girls and boys may be introduced to the game of golf, Consett Golf Club are committed to achieving the quality assurance of the governing body for Golf England, through the Golf Mark accreditation
We hope you found this leaflet useful and we look forward to meeting you soon.
Best regards,

Mark Bonser.

Club Professional’s Welcome
I have been the Professional at Consett Golf Club since 2010. I qualified as a Professional in 1993 after completing the 3 year PGA course while working in the Professional’s shop at Billingham.
I can assure ALL members of Consett Golf Club that I will provide members, as well as visitors, superb coaching, custom fit, repair and golf retail services based in my Professional shop and studio.
Coaching to members and visitors is carried out either on course or in my indoor golf studio. The indoor golf studio not only allows me to aid members and visitors to analyse their swing and ball flight problems, but as a Mizuno performance centre and leading fitter for brands such as Callaway, Titleist, Ping and Taylormade I aim to provide one of the most comprehensive fitting experiences using the many features of the Foresight GC2.
In my workshop I can provide members and visitors with a range of repair services – re-grips, re-shafting, loft and lie, re-spiking, swing weighting and shaft lengthening. All repairs are carried out on the premises unless clubs need to be sent back to the manufacturer when the product is within the warranty period.
I can also offer bespoke services to yourself or visiting parties when playing at Consett, such as gift packs on arrival, longest drive and nearest the pin facility, scorecard administration and prizes.
Once again, I would like to assure members that I will provide you with the best advice and service whatever your golfing requests. As a member of tgi, the largest buying group in Europe, if you can’t see what you want please do not hesitate to ask for it.

Craig Dilley
