Captain’s Blog (S Stokoe)
With one game to go in the league, July has proved to be a tough month for the team, with the defeat at home to Wearside (one of our close contenders) last Tuesday, meaning the results in the final matches would have to go our way in an extraordinary manner, for us to be promoted.
In the League Knockout Trophy semi-final we were defeated at Houghton le Spring, home ground again proving to be hugely advantageous.
Your support for our final league match away to Whickham on Tuesday 6.8.19 would be much appreciated.
A massive thank you to the Seniors Section for their excellent organisation of their ‘Seniors Open’, a brilliant event showcasing the club and course, to many visitors, in a very positive light.
The course continues to come into its own with plentiful rain and warm weather assisting growth in all areas, even in some degree to our much-maligned fringes. The fairways and greens in particular are presenting beautifully at present.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who contributed or attended during the day and/or night of my Captains prize. Both turn outs were beyond my expectations, but very much welcomed, assisting in raising in excess of £1250.00 for my charities. (exact figure will be posted when all monies have been received). Your generosity on the day was stunning!!!
Raffle prizes sheets are displayed around the clubhouse. Prizes available behind the bar.
A warm welcome to Val Oakton our new secretary. We wish her well in her new post, I feel certain with everyone’s support, she will fill the roll to the golf clubs advantage. On this point I must apologise for the delay in the an-nouncement of her appointment, holidays and the freak lighting storm which damaged various golf club systems, contributing. That said, again apologies to all, there was certainly no offence intended.
Finally, a huge WELL DONE to Jamie, his Junior team and their governors Mark and Janet in their winning the Junior League, a cracking all round effort.
In the meantime, Enjoy your golf everyone.
