Captain’s Blog (S Stokoe)
I would like to start my first blog by saying it is an absolute honour and privilege to be Captain of Consett and District Golf Club for 2019.
Let me assure you, I will give my all to make the year as successful and enjoyable for the club, all its members and staff, on and off the course.
I am sure I speak for everyone when I say a massive thank you to our ‘retiring’ captain Gerry Murphy, not forgetting his better half Rosalie. Their com-mitment and endeavour have been unquestionable…..and at times tiring for me to even watch.
I would also like to take the opportunity to welcome Paul Stonehouse as my Vice Captain for the year. I have no doubt whatsoever that we shall work well together to deliver a cracking year for the club as a whole.
We will also be doing all in our power, to help the team achieve promotion back to the 1st Division, where they truly belong.
Good luck for the coming season to the Club Section Captains, Alan Askew (seniors), Jillian Hughes (ladies), and Jamie Raisbeck (juniors). If there is anything myself or Paul can do to help during your year, please ask.
Your continuing support for the Captains Charities would be most welcome, they are:
Consett Golf Club (Charity begins at home, money to be spent on a specific project TBC)
All monies raised will be split equally between the two.
I have been very fortunate to secure the following sponsors for the coming season :
Advanced Financial Planning – Phillip Bousefield
AVM Business Associates – Malcolm Williams
Bryan Davison School of Motoring – Bryan Davison(obviously)
ACE Civil Engineering – Mark Short
The Cricketers – Gary Hall
I am extremely grateful, my sincere thanks to you all.
Dates for the Diary
Last year’s Captain Gerry Murphy’s leaving night is on 9th February. It would be nice to see as many members as possible on the night to give Gerry the best possible send off to recognise his hard work during his Captains year. Bookings can be made and menus chosen, at the clubhouse bar.
The Club have organised a rules night, presented by Clyde Camp from Durham County, to be held on Wednesday 13th February. I would urge as many members as possible to attend as it is a rare occasion when so many changes occur at one time.
My Captains day is to held on Saturday 13th July , I have booked ‘Dog in a Box’ a highly rated local band for the evening entertainment along with a Brian Wigham buffet.
