Captains Report May (Bill Leathley)
Well what a great start to the month as Gerry and myself were champions in the Captain Vice Captain competition with a score of +6, held at Ramside Hall Golf Club on a raw and windy day. We received the trophy and a glass fruit bowl, also a dozen golf balls after beating Wearside on the back nine count back. The competition will be held here at Consett next year as a reward.
This month saw the start of the domestic playing season which I’m sure we all have been waiting for. The weather has been great, although I’m sure Dave would have liked a little more rain to help with the course.
We started our gents competition against Houghton le Spring with an 8.6 loss, which was a decent result away from home. We then played 3 more games, winning the next two at home 8.6 against South Moor and 13.1 against Whickham, then a loss of 10.4 away to Brancepeth this month. There seems to be some very decent teams in this league. Winning our home games well is our plan, with good results away to keeps us on course for our goal. All in all a pretty good month for the team, and my thanks to all the players who participated and well done. Also to the forgotten heroes who caddy week in week out, thanks lads and lasses. Can I also thank the spectators and squad members who turn out to support the team, there are more each week. Thank you.
We played our game in the Clark cup against Bishop Auckland on Friday last at their course, unfortunately losing 3 to 2. Again my thanks to the team for their time and participation. I’m sure it’s not easy having put a shift in at work then rushing back to play golf is not the best preparation for any match, but still playing some fantastic golf.
I’ve been asked on a number of occasions when will we have more charity Texas scrambles and quick steps. In answer there is nothing planned but I’ll look in to it for you.
Until next month have a good months golfing. Keep it the right side up see you on the flip
